The spread is the story: a Dunedin business can spend $749 or $6,000 on “a website”, and the difference is mostly page count, custom design and meetings. What affordable should include, whoever builds it
- A .co.nz in your name. Not the designer’s, not the agency’s. The Domain Name Commission’s own guidance says that if the registrant listed is your web developer, you need to contact your registrar and get it transferred. Check yours in a minute.
- The total, with GST stated. A $749 build is $749 plus hosting, plus the domain, plus every edit after launch. Ask for year-two costs before you compare.
- Someone who’ll change the hours. Dunedin has plenty of handsome sites showing hours from two winters ago. Upkeep is the product.
- Text a machine can read. 45% of consumers now ask AI tools for local recommendations. A site that hides your facts in images is affordable invisibility.
What’s already built in Dunedin and Otago
